Angela Chavez is the Founder and Executive Director of Chicas Latinas de Sacramento, the Director of Communications at Courage California, and provides strategic communications consulting services, specializing in California advocacy and nonprofit communications solutions.
She was appointed under Governor Jerry Brown as the External Affairs and Media Relations Communications Specialist for California Complete Count Census 2020. Prior to her role with the 2020 Census, Angela was a Director at Mercury Public Affairs’ Sacramento office, consulting on strategic media relations for statewide equity campaigns and clients.
Born and raised in Sacramento, Angela is a first generation high school and college graduate. She received her B.A. in journalism from Sacramento State and worked as a journalist in the Central Valley. She founded a Latina volunteer cultivation and leadership 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2009, which serves the Sacramento region.
Angela Chavez is well-versed in both local and statewide equity issues and has worked on numerous statewide and local public affairs and public relation campaigns. She enjoys training and hosting workshops for grassroots nonprofits, to help empower community advocates on how to effectively share their stories and help organizations raise awareness around the issues that impact their community.
