EMERGE 101
We are thrilled you’ll be joining us for the region’s biggest networking, professional development, and civic engagement event of the year, the Emerge Summit! We’re looking forward to seeing you at The Crest Theatre (1013 K Street) this Thursday, September 19, 2019.
Not sure what to expect? Or are your networking skills a little rusty? We all know that even the best young professionals experience a little anxiety about getting out there and chatting with new people. Here are some tips on what to expect at the Emerge Summit to put you at ease and help you to enjoy and benefit from the biggest young professional event of the year:
What to Bring:
Your business cards, a notebook, a pen, your energy, and the most important thing – your passion!
What to Wear:
For this type of event we say “business attire,” but that may not help everyone, so let’s break it down:
– Ladies: Slacks with a great top and jacket, skirt with a blouse, or a nice dress.
– Men: Slacks, blazers and collared shirt. And of course, the no-fail option: suit up!
Ultimately, you want to wear what you feel comfortable in while putting your best foot forward. While we’re on the subject of feet, please wear shoes you are comfortable walking in to and from breakout sessions. As a reminder, all breakout sessions are within a ten-minute walk of The Crest Theatre.
Transportation:
We have an entire page dedicated to transportation and how to get around during the event. Check it out for info on GIG Car Shares, Regional Transit, and more!
Check-in:
Doors open at 8:15 a.m. Enter The Crest Theatre. There will be signs directing you to check-in by last name. Grab your nametag, note your lunch location, and you are on your way!
At the Event:
Doors open at 8:15 a.m. and the main program begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. Enjoy coffee, mix and mingle, visit the booths of our amazing sponsors, and enjoy the live performances we have in store for you.
Breakout Sessions:
You have the opportunity to choose three breakout sessions to attend. Breakout Sessions will run from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., and 2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. You will have 15 minutes to travel between workshops.
We recommend you read up on all 26 sessions before the event. Some breakout providers will host their session only once during the day, so be sure to plan your day in advance. Space in each session is available on a first come, first served basis. A map of the event, including all of the breakout sessions, will be available in your program. Speaking of your program, you can view it here.
Food & Drink:
The best part of any great event: a full stomach! Your ticket price includes morning pastries and coffee. Your ticket also includes lunch! You’ll find out which restaurant you’re going to when you arrive at the Emerge Summit.
EDGE916:
Your ticket also includes entry to EDGE916, our post-Emerge networking event and the celebration of Metro EDGE’s 10th birthday. EDGE916 will be from 4-7 p.m. at The Bank (629 J Street). Have some co-workers or friends who weren’t able to take the day off work to attend Emerge? Tell them to meet you at EDGE916 so they can join in on some of the networking fun!
